Very hyped about this one.
Thug Entrancer came through with the straight fire, majestic selections in the fourth instalment of the Structures From Silence mix series. Peep the mix and read our lil Q&A below.
Hello Ryan, how are you? For the uninitiated out there, tell us a little something about Thug Entrancer?
Hello, I’m well thanks. Briefly, I’m an electronic composer from Denver, CO. My work primarily focuses on the relationship between human input and mechanical output. I work with a variety of hardware based synthesizers to explore this, mainly through rituals of improv. I enjoy tracing the lineage of musical technology and digging into how it has influenced and created musical sub-cultures. The outcome of my own work attempts to reflect this interest and also the desire to fight binary modes of composing.
Describe the mix in three words.
Texture. Pulse. Drift.
What was the last book you read?
The San Francisco Tape Music Center: 1960s Counterculture and the Avant-garde by David Bernstein.
What was the last record you bought?
Rival Consoles – Night Melody – Erased Tapes.
This changes for me all of the time, but what is your current top 3 film scores?
Ever changing but I’ve been going back to these as of late:
The Thing – Ennio Morricone
Forbidden Planet – Bebe and Louis Barron
Music for the Motion Picture Victoria – Nils Frahm
Whats your favourite record to cook to?
There’s something about House music and cooking that really clicks for me. I’m usually listening to Omar S or some Dance Mania tracks, something up-beat and usually heavy.
Whats the rest of 2016 got in store for Thug Entrancer?
Right now I’m really enjoying the ebb and flow of becoming a new parent. Reconnecting with artifacts and ideas that have shaped my foundation while simultaneously opening my perception to new ways of being has created an immense experience thus far. I’m attempting to translate that energy into my work while continuing to maintain my musical explorations and rituals.
Any final thoughts / shout outs?
Thank you for your time, infinite love for all the heads, known and unknown.
