For Structure 015 I caught up with Filippo Rocco from production duo Metropolitan Soul Museum.
Listen to the mix and peep my little q&a with Filippo below.
Thank you very much for recording the mix, really appreciate it!! For the uninitiated out there, tell us a little about yourself? Who / What is MSM?
MSM or Metropolitan Soul Museum is Nick and Filippo. We used to run Teng Records together, then we started making some music and decided to leave running the record label and focus on producing (which is what both love at the end of the day).
Describe the mix in three words?
Nostalgic, unexpected, not danceable.
What is your earliest memory of the club?
I think is when I went to Tresor in Berlin during a school trip. I still wasn’t into Electronic Music so it was definitely an experience, visually and sonically.
What was the last record you bought? And where is your favourite spot to buy records?
Last record I bought I think it’s one of the many version of Ravel’s Bolero, my favourite piece of music ever. Spot to buy records I really like going to see the Do You guys, but considering that we play live and don’t really DJ much we aren’t really huge records buyer. We buy what we really want, sometimes through Bandcamp or Juno etc. Great music listeners though!
What was the last book you read? And does literature influence your music at all?
Filippo: Last book I read was The Royal Game by Zweig. I would say that mostly whatever happens in our lives is influencing our music making right now. Definitely the music we listen to plays a huge part in finding new ways of expressing ourselves as much as the political surrounding…
What is your favourite film score of all time?
Oh gosh, that’s a question…. I love “Duck, you sucker” by Leone…. Soundtrack and story have always been some of my favourite since I was a kid!
What’s your favourite dish to cook?
Pasta with pumpkin/butternut squash and pancetta. Sublime.
And finally, what’s the plan for MSM in the rest of 2017?
We’ve got a few releases planned… Rawax first then something else that we don’t want to unveil just yet… And definitely more…. 🙂
